Before & After Magazine is one of the best resources I’ve found for beginners and experienced designers alike. bamagazine.com publishes downloadable PDF articles that walk you through the redesign of what I call “realistic” projects. The information is practical and simple. Each article examines the final redesign and explains every last detail of the piece–from the font size, leading and kerning to the break down of color choices, stock photo choices and sources–all the way down to the page size.

Before & After Magazine is published one article at a time. A subscription of 32 articles will run you $24 dollars. You can also purchase the articles individually for $3.99. A hand full of them are free to download. Below are a handful of the topics you will find on the site.
