Slab Serifs Fonts & Martha Stewart Living
I’m going to make a bold statement and predict that Slab Serifs are going to be the next big design trend, font-wise. In fact I use a Slab Serif font for my logo. It’s hard to get board of them especially when the better foundries are doing such wonderfully creative and diverse things with what one might initially think is a limited palette. Slab Serifs fonts are popping up all over the place, especially in mid to upper level home-fashion magazines. Most notably Martha Stewart Living. The magazine uses a font called Archer which was developed by The Hoefler Type Foundry. The font is no longer exclusive, however the complete Archer range of 40 styles (eight weights from hairline to bold) will set you back a cool $400.
Another Slab Serif worth mentioning is Neutraface Slab. It’s the latest from a Type Foundry called House Industries. Neutraface Slab offers six display weights and loads up open type features. That clocks in at $250.
