5-Well-Designed-Blogs

There are about 112 million blogs on the the internet. And a staggering 175,000 new blogs added every day. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the overwhelming majority of them are poorly designed. On the surface blogs have the stigma of lacking any real visual branding. That’s because most of them (even the successful ones) are jammed packed with shit. Some where down the line, busy and cluttered became an acceptable look for blogs. Below are 5 blogs that buck that trend. They all adhere to the basic design principles of balance, contrast, proximity, alignment, and scale.

Note that they all have the following in common:

1. They all have a strong and consistent color scheme. You don’t need shit blinking and flashing all over the page.
2. They all make good use of white space. Most bloggers have Cenophobia.
3. All of them are very conservative with how much content they add to their sidebar. Some of them don’t even have a side bar.
4. The typography is easy on the eyes. None of them go overboard with making every other word bold or underlined.
5. They all have ownable headers.
